R&D Domain

The Research and Development domain ( DTI / R&D) is in charge of leading upstream studies and research actions to enable the DSNA to master the evolution of its medium and long-term system.

To satisfy this objective, the domain R&D

  • Contributes actively to the definition of an operational concept for ATM in an European frame,
  • defines this concept in steps adapted to the environment of the DSNA involved in the process on various time scales, by granting the greatest attention to the questions of the transition between the current system (or the system in development) and the proposed scenario,
  • studies tools enabling the implementation of these scenarios and proposes the main lines of the associated methods of work,
  • realizes the first mock ups of these tools, develops them according to the progress of the or envisages the specifications of prototypes which are implemented either in the ATM domain, or by the European partners (the other ANSP or industrialists),
  • Estimates the performance of these tools and scenarios, either in a theoretical way or by means of arithmetical simulations, or by means of real-time simulations with the cooperation of operational staff.
  • These missions are possible only by involving the other domains of the DTI, in particular:  EOS, ATM and CNS .

One of the specificities of the domain is that these activities are carried out under the auspices of the European authorities, possibly within consortiums grouping together European and industrial ANSPs in the ground and in the air.

The R&D domain adheres to the European strategy of the DSNA. To maintain “the state of the art” built on the ranges of expertise available, projects outside of European requirements enable the exploration of ideas, new technologies, or points raised by research.
